The city is situated on the river Main’s left bank, approximately 25 km south-east of Frankfurt am Main, and directly neighbours Bavaria. Its bordering communities are in the north on the community of Hainburg, in the east on the community of Karlstein (Aschaffenburg district, Bavaria), and in the south on the community of Mainhausen.

Disposal in Seligenstadt: Professional and Affordable Waste Management

Seligenstadt is one of Germany’s oldest towns, and a centre of Carnival culture. A parade of more than 100 elaborately built attractions snakes its way through the historic inner town and neighbouring parts of the town, traditionally on Rosenmontag (Shrove Monday). Two children are selected each year to be the Carnival Prince and Princess.

The town’s outskirts, particularly the timber-frame neighbourhood along Rosengasse, bear witness to Walloon settlement after the Thirty Years’ War. The town was also a site for the first Franco-German university. In the Middle Ages, Seligenstadt was a rest stop for bands of merchants travelling from all points on the compass to the Frankfurt Trade Fair. In order to protect these travellers, the local feudal lords established a system of escort duties. Each affected fiefholder was obliged to afford travellers armed escorts in return for a fee. This is the origin of the Geleitsloffel (“Seligenstadt Escort”), which is still in a modified form part of the customs of this city to this day.
